High School Teacher Gifts – Ideas & Email Script

High school is a different game, friends. For grades Young 5’s – 8th, I had a printable for each school staff member listing their likes and dislikes. It was saved on my phone and I referred to it often.

That’s not a thing in high school, though. And as much as I’d like to send a printable in to be filled out, my kids would never.

Instead, I’ve come up with a few tricks.

I ask my kids to keep an eye on their teachers’ desks. See what they drink or snack on. If it’s Starbucks (pretty common), I can easily send an electronic gift card. If it’s something else, I can pick up a few extras when I’m at the store. Sparkling water is popular. I bag up the treats, label them, and leave them in the office.

I send an email. Sometimes I send this on its own, sometimes I include it as part of another email. It says something like this:

“I’m so glad Josie has you as a teacher this year. She is really looking forward to your class. To show my appreciation, I’d like to send in a drink or snack here and there throughout the year. Do you mind replying with your favorites? If there’s anything you need for your classroom (good tissue, wipes, sanitizer), I’m happy to send those in, too.”

Send in a default, win-every-time classroom supply. Want to know what it is? Good tissue. A huge pack of quality, soft tissue. Especially during cold and allergy season. I have yet to meet a teacher who has said no to this. I label and leave them in the office. Click here for a link to the tissue I send in over and over.

I’ve also been known to send in black Expo markers, Flair pens, Sharpies and sanitizer.

Important note – don’t forget school staff! Around the holidays and during Staff Appreciation Week (always the first full week of May), I try to give every adult in the building a handwritten note and $5 Starbucks gift card.
