Back-To-School Prep – Backpack Extras

I like to baby step our back-to-school prep. I know it’s early, but I really prefer to enter August feeling ready. There’s enough to do without also worrying about backpacks and school supplies.
I have a habit of empty and washing backpacks immediately after school is out. The thought of old food lingering in a pocket is my motivation for that task. Ew. We also shopped for school supplies a few weeks ago, so we’re all set there. Check and check.
One more thing I can do? Add a few extras to their bag. It’s nice to have these things on hand in case something pops up. It makes me feel better to know they have them, and I think it makes them feel better, too. (I hope they’re learning preparation skills, too.)
I pop the following things in a small zip bag:
- Small deodorant
- Mints
- Chapstick
- Hair tie + bobby pin
- Bar of some sort
- Liquid IV
- Cash
- Emergency toiletry items (not pictured)
We keep backpacks in a basket by the front door. It’s so nice to know they’re clean, packed, and ready to go.
(If it’s time for a new backpack, we’re big fans of Lands’ End Classmates. My high school kids use a size XL. If you’re not sure what size is right for your child, there’s a good graphic on the Lands’ End site here. These links are affiliate – thank you for your support!)
